The Lord Mayor of Augsburg, Dr. Kurt Gribl, officially opened German Bionic’s new “transparent factory” in Augsburg today, in the presence of the two managing directors and founders Dr. Peter Heiligensetzer and Armin G. Schmidt.

German Bionic is one of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of robotic exoskeletons. Exoskeletons are human-machine systems that combine human intelligence with machine power by supporting or reinforcing the wearer’s movements and thus reducing the risk of workplace injuries and other conditions caused by excessive strain. The high-tech company from Augsburg is the first manufacturer in Europe to develop and mass-produce the innovative robots worn directly on the body.

“Our approach of combining human intelligence with machine power and thus making professions that are physically demanding more attractive again, hits the nerve of time against the backdrop of an acute shortage of skilled workers and demographic change,” said Chief Technology Officer Dr. Peter Heiligensetzer in his welcoming speech. CEO Armin G. Schmidt added: “Augsburg is internationally synonymous with innovation and high-tech. With our company, we are deeply rooted in the region and will continue to expand our capacities in the future.”

Transparent factory to become a center of information for the future of bionics

The German Bionic Cray X robotic exoskeleton will henceforth be produced in the new 1000 square meter “transparent factory”. In addition, public guided tours and events will be held there on a regular basis to inform about the latest company developments and the future of bionics.
