Award for human-centric exoskeleton tech – presented by leading AI authority and BBC technology journalist Lara Lewington at CES

Award for human-centric exoskeleton tech – presented by leading AI authority and BBC technology journalist Lara Lewington at CES

At German Bionic, our exchange with Lara Lewington has been an ongoing one. Around three years ago, she reported for BBC Click on the deployment of our exoskeletons at major British retailer Currys in their logistics and warehousing operations, highlighting how wearable robotics can make demanding work more sustainable – not in theory, but directly on the shop floor.

Yesterday at CES, Lara Lewington stopped by our stand once again. This time, she tried Exia, our latest robotic exoskeleton, to experience first-hand what Physical AI means in 2026. Having followed our technology over several generations, she was keen to feel the progress herself – and the advances were immediately tangible.

Lara is widely recognized as an international tech expert who consistently brings clarity, depth, and a strong human focus to emerging technologies. That same perspective underpins the newly created Lara Lewington Health Tech Awards, designed to spotlight innovations that genuinely improve the lives of those who use them.

During her visit to our stand at CES in the German Pavilion, Lara presented German Bionic with one of the inaugural Health Tech Awards on site – a strong signal for the role human-centric robotics is now playing in the wider health and work tech landscape.

This moment also reflects a broader shift the Exoskeleton Report highlighted ahead of CES. Its founder Borislav Marinov predicted that CES 2026 would become a defining stage for exoskeleton technology – with more companies, more visibility, and a scale that would require guidance just to see it all. With exoskeletons now spread across the show floor and a first dedicated award already presented, that prediction has clearly become reality.

With exoskeleton technology now firmly established on the CES stage, having that progress recognised through a human-centric lens matters.

Thank you, Lara, for bestowing us with the award as well as the ongoing exchange – and for continuing to challenge how technology should serve people.

👉 You can also see Lara’s own wrap-up of her visit and first impressions of Exia on her Instagram channel.
